Raising Reading Attainment in KS2 and KS3 –

Inference Training

A one day course for teachers and teaching assistants to raise attainment in pupils’ inferential comprehension.

Inference training is a group intervention for pupils in KS2 and KS3 who decode adequately but fail to gain full meaning and enjoyment when reading. This research-based programme supports pupils to make on average 12 months gain in reading age over a period of 10 weeks.

The course includes

  • Identifying key barriers to reading comprehension
  • How to profile pupils to identify individual differences when comprehending texts
  • A structured approach to delivering inference intervention sessions
  • Applying key principles to quality first teaching in the classroom

Audience

English subject leaders, SENCos, KS2 teachers, KS3 teachers, teaching assistants (it is advised that teachers and teaching assistants attend together to ensure maximum impact on pupil attainment within your school).
